I am rating this item the way I am because it was a gift and I have not heard anything bad about this item. I based my 5 star rating for amount of fun, due to knowing how my grandsons love balls and the mallets. And I based my 4 star rating on the overall toy due to the appearance when I opened the package. This is an excellent product, but not every girl will like to pretend play with a kitchen. My daughter has had it since the Christmas after she turned two and rarely plays with it. She will be 4 in a few months. This Spring, we moved the kitchen out to the garage, because we sometimes have playdates outside with other kids. Well, the other kids like it alright. Since they play, she plays, too. The hit is the Melissa and Doug cutting food box, not really the kitchen for any of them. Also, they like to pretend to drink the drinks and use the plates, which also are more of a hit than the kitchen itself. Plan Toys Food and Beverage Set is very good for its wooden condiments and drink bottles. (There is one boy who likes to make sandwiches and bake in the oven.) Overall, her Schylling tea set is her favorite toy, followed closely by Dora's House. Regardless, it is an excellent product - well designed, very pretty, and I believe it was easy to put together.

It took a while to put together, you need to be organized. I had a small part that was damaged and a chip on one of the doors. I contact the company and they sent me the two replacements immediately and for free. My daughter is thrilled with this kitchen, her friends like playing with it and my wife is happy with it. santa brought this to my two children (ages 1 and 2-1/2) this past christmas and it is still one of the most played with toys in the house. we have it stocked with lots of wooden toys and metal pots and pans and a tea set - and EVERY DAY it gets emptied. they love it. even at their young age, they already pretend to cook and tell me the oven is hot (not to touch it) and wash dishes. they are adorable playing with it.



i'm glad i picked this kitchen, amazon had the best price around too. we got it in the mail in about 3 days and there wasn't a scratch or dent on it. great packing and shipping - all around impressed with that experience. we used the free super saver shipping as it was offered at the time of our purchase.

I replaced our smaller, plastic kitchen with this one thinking it would be more fun since it had more components. My 3 year old daughter likes it, but I'm wondering if she'd like the newer plastic models that have sound and are more interactive. My daugther seems more interested in the play food.



It is very sturdy. Took my husband close to 3 hours to build it and he's very good at building things. I do recommend it, and hope to get plenty of use out of it with our daughter and future child.

I was very excited to get my son this puzzle to help him learn both the lower and upper case letters of the alphabet. However, some of the lower case letters do not look as I think they should. I should have paid closer attention to the picture of the puzzle before ordering it, but now that we have it I see that the lower case "q" and "a" look almost identical; the lower case "b" and "d" do not have long enough stems; and the upper case "N" is too fat. Also, the dots above the lower case "i" and "j" are too hard to distinguish. I love how there are pictures under the pieces. I just wish the letters had been carved better.

I would give this one six stars if I could. My girl's 20 mo's, and in the 2 months we've been playing with this alphabet she's learned an amazing amount. Plus, she LOVES it. She only knows a few of the letters by their actual names, but when she picks up almost every letter here she can state the picture associated with it. So, 'I' isn't 'I,' but "ice cubes," and W is 'watch,' etc. She's never even seen a jellybean, but she screams "jellybean!" when she grabs the J. Awesome. It's a great challenge for her little fingers too - her dexterity has improved from initially just slapping the letters down in the approximate region of where they belonged, to lots of twisting and turning to slot each one and now, finally, she can place them correctly about half the time. I love that the letters that could be symmetric, like the Z, aren't, and that the u and n are the same color - it's more interesting this way! Yes, the pictures underneath the letters are unusual... and I'd much rather use this opportunity to teach her what a quail is than have her know only the ubiquitous 'Queen' as her Q-word. I only gave three stars for durability because the letters are not appropriate for chewing upon. They're quite substantial dry, but need to be kept out of little mouths. Just another reason to play with this one together at first.

This is a great puzzle for learning the letters. I have three preschool age kids that all enjoy lifting the letters to look at the picture or my oldest can now place them in the correct spot. I purchased this one over some of the cheaper ones because these puzzle pieces are in the actual shape of the letter- something I think is important while learning the letters. Some of the others have the same whitespace shape all around. Also I like that both upper and lower case letters are next to each other to help with recognition... just somethings to keep in mind while your looking for alphabet puzzles.

Warning to potential buyers: The puzzle that arrived is not the same product as shown in the picture on the Amazon website. I just returned mine. I believe the puzzle in the picture is an older version. Unfortunately, the quality seems to have been lowered since the version in the picture. In the one I got, the shape of both the big and little letter S were so bad they honestly did not look like an S. The cutout areas on the upper right and lower left part of the S were not deep enough, so the letter just looked like a big blob with wavy edges. Another clue that there was a change in the manufacturing process is that the warning at the bottom of the puzzle is shown in the lower left corner in the picture, but was on the lower right corner in the puzzle I got. I liked the idea of an alphabet puzzle with both big and little letters, but I want one where all the letters are recognizable so my children will learn the correct shape of the letters. This is not it. Before returning this puzzle, I considered giving it away as a gift to someone instead, but honestly, I'd be embarrassed to give such a low quality item to someone I knew.

As soon as we opened the puzzle the wood cover,you know the part that has the printed words on it and covers the ply wood breaks off.That cover is pretty dangerous.I spent 30 min. with a kitchen knife chipping the remaining cover off I stabbed my self with the wooden cover due to it splentering. I do like the puzzle i wish they would have just painted the ply wood instead of trying to hide it with the cover. the letters have stickers. I found this out after my 8 month old put the z in her mouth. I wish the letters were painted also. My 2.5 year old likes the pictures under the letters. I am fearfull that he is going to get the pictures wet and that these stickers are going to fall off. over all good puzzle. I will eventually paint the ply wood my self and once the letter loose their stickers i will paint them also. a lower price would have made the extra work worth it. I dont like to complain and I defenitely dont enjoy paying for sticker covered ply wood. I hope you find this review helpful.

This is a very colorful and seemingly fun exersaucer at first glance. However the toys CONSTANTLY fall off and leave my 5 month old very frustrated. I went back to the store and examined the floor model and it seemed very sturdy and well made......I just wonder how I wound up with a model that is so poorly made!!! I paid around $70 for this and I'm going to try to take it back. It seriously is a PIECE OF JUNK!!!!

This is a great toy for when you need to get something done (like laundry, dishes, vacumming, etc.) but don't have hands to hold the baby, or you don't want her on the floor. It's also a good learning experience; my 5 month old daughter seems so deep in concentration when playing with the attached toys. There's a good variety of skills needed for the different toys, and the "piano" is a huge hit! My daughter gets so excited when she pushes the buttons and makes a song start!



I'm also happy that the seat is machine washable and can go in the dryer. Only thing I wish I'd realized is that the seat doesn't bounce...just spins so the baby can face all the different toys. Still, she doesn't seem to care that her seat isn't bouncing; she's happy enough with the toys.

My 5 1/2 month old daughter absolutely loves this toy. She is extremely active and this is just about the only thing that keeps her attention for longer than 15 minutes! The moment I put her in it for the first time, she started banging on the piano and singing! She figured it out really fast aswell, she'll play with the 2 toys in front of her for 5 minutes or so, then turn around to something else when she starts to get bored. Her favorites are the piano, the giraffe, and the pandas. I do wish the lion puppet with the drum actually made sound, because my daughter loves to hit drums. I'll sit her on my lap with a djembe or darbuka and she'll bang away- and she can keep time! Very musical little one. Some parents expressed concerns about how easily it can tip- I see this potential, and that is why I play WITH her as opposed to using it as a baby sitter. I sit right next to it and interact with her, applauding her music and putting my hand in the puppet and such. If I do go even a few steps away from her, I put pillows all around the base just in case, but I would never leave her unattended in this or any toy. Some babies might not have a problem with this, but she is a big girl and doesn't hold still- she is constantly bouncing and dancing, and she's 28in tall and 18lbs.

I would have not purchased this toy had I read even one review that it flipped easily. My twin is a dancer and tossed the entire unit on it's side today, cracking his head on the hardwood floor and leaving a gigantic bruise on his forehead. He is ten months old and twenty two pounds. Believe me, I watch every move these babies make--do not even bathe until my husband is home to watch them. They are always in the same room with me. I just want to be sure you understand that this did not happen fron lack of being properly looked after. I'm so nervous now--am e-mailing the company and waiting for a reply. But for now, please don't buy this for your babies. The thought of another baby coming out of this thing makes me sick and, to be honest, quite angry. Please buy something else. Anything else. I'll post a follow up after hearing what they say. Today is March 31st, 2010.

Pulling apart the pepper and the onion which is velcro, manipulating the tongs to pick up the food, and picking up the food with their fingers and putting it on the skewer. The box it comes in is so cute for storage and to play it is like a little grill.

I very rarely write reviews (as I work full time and raise a toddler). But, I am so disappointed with this product that I feel compelled to write. I had read all the reviews that rave about this grill, so when I saw it in a local store (for $20), I immediately purchased it for my two year son. He loves kitchens and cooking toys and we have other Melissa & Doug products that I have been pleased with, so I assumed this would be great. Unfortunately, it is the worst quality child's toy we have ever purchased. The "coals" are a glued on picture at the bottom of the box; the picture is glued on crooked, with tears and bubbles. The grill top is very thin plastic that doesn't fit into the slots on the box, so it's constantly buckling in. (I'm surprised at the review that says her children have stood on it without it breaking; I can't imagine that, unless maybe hers is of a different quality). The paint on the box is chipping. It's all just VERY POORLY made. Also, I'm surprised that they didn't think to add a couple of painted wooden charcoal pieces to actually allow kids to play with the grill. As is, this is basically a cheaply made box with a couple of Melissa & Doug foods in it. I do not recommend.

I think this is my kids' favorite play food ever. My 4 yr old makes shishkabobs and "sells" them to every member of the house. The 2 yr old is obsessed with the tongs and picks up anything not nailed down. My 10 yr old has people custom order their kabobs. We have had this since December and all pieces are still intact. I also love that you can store all the pieces in the "grill" and it is self contained. My kids are constantly stepping on it *sigh* when the plastic grill is in place and in 3 months, it hasn't even cracked. Altogether, a good durable toy with huge play value!

This is one of my favorite pretend food items by Melissa and Doug. We do a lot of grilling and the kids love to pretend they are grilling, too.
